How to convert WEBP to PNG or JPG

  1. Click the yellow area and pick your WEBP images, or drag the files onto the page. You can also copy an image and paste it with Ctrl+V.
  2. Choose PNG or JPG. For JPG, adjust the quality if you like.
  3. Images are converted right away. Download them one by one or all together in a ZIP.

Why so many images are WEBP

WEBP is a format created by Google to make web pages lighter. A WEBP image is usually 25% to 35% smaller than the same JPG, so online stores, blogs, Google Images and social networks adopted it. When you click "Save image as", the file comes as .webp.

The trouble comes later: the old Windows photo viewer won’t open it, older versions of Word and PowerPoint refuse it, and many websites and apps only accept JPG or PNG uploads.

PNG or JPG: which one?

  • PNG: pick it for logos, icons, stickers, drawings and screenshots. It keeps transparency (the checkerboard background stays transparent) and loses no detail. Files are bigger.
  • JPG: pick it for photos. It’s much lighter and accepted everywhere. Since JPG has no transparency, transparent areas become white.

When in doubt: if the image has a transparent background or text, PNG. If it’s a photo, JPG at 85% to 92% quality.

Your files stay on your device

The conversion is done by your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, there’s no sign-up, no watermark and no image limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the image lose quality?

Not with PNG: every pixel of the WEBP is copied exactly. JPG applies light compression that’s practically invisible above 85% quality. The pixel dimensions stay the same.

What about animated WEBP?

Animated WEBP images (like a GIF) are converted from the first frame, becoming a still image.

My PNG is bigger than the WEBP. Is that normal?

Yes. WEBP is very efficient and PNG stores everything losslessly, so it’s usually 2 to 5 times bigger. If size matters, choose JPG, or run the image through compress image to KB afterwards.

Can I convert many at once?

Yes. Pick or drop as many as you want. With two or more, the Download all (ZIP) button appears.

Does it work with other formats?

Yes. The tool also opens AVIF, GIF, BMP and iPhone HEIC photos. For iPhone photos, see HEIC to JPG. To change the size in pixels, use resize image.
